How to build an email list for affiliate marketing

Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective and a great way to not only stay in touch with your audience but also to engage them, and then convert them into lifetime customers.

With over 4.26 billion email users, 96% of consumers checking their email every day and 60% making a purchase after receiving a promotional email, building an email for your affiliate marketing business is a good idea – not to say a “must”.

But how to build an email list for affiliate marketing?

Well, in this article, I will share some proven strategies on how to build an email list for your affiliate marketing business.

But before we get into the nitty gritty of your email list-building process, let’s first understand what an email list is.

What is an email list?

In simple terms, an email list also known as the mailing list or subscribers list refers to the total amount of subscribers you have in a specific list you have created.

It is a list of email addresses and other data, such as name, gender, location, etc.

When you create an email list and you connect this list to your landing page or opt-in form and a visitor opts in or requests your freebie, his email address and other data (name, country, etc) get added to that specific list.

And when people opt into your email they are giving you permission to send them updates and promotions emails.

An email list is a great way to segment your visitors based on their interests.

For example, if you blog about gardening like indoor gardening and outdoor gardening you can create an email list for people who have an interest indoor gardening and one also for those who have an interest in outdoor gardening.

This way you can customize your messaging and campaigns tailored to each group. Each group will receive information or emails that meet their needs and that can lead to more engagement and conversion.

And this is where the money comes from.

Why should you Build an Email List for Affiliate Marketing?

Apart from the fact that email marketing is a great way to stay in touch with your audience and engage them, there are several reasons to create an email list for your business.

How to build an email list for affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make a passive income online. But before you be able to expect that passive income, you have to make the first sale.

And to keep the customer using the product or service we promote, you will need to continue providing value to them in some cases.

This is where email marketing comes into play.

But how do you build your email list as an affiliate and get the most of its benefits?

Here we go.

Step 1: Find a great affiliate program to join

We are talking about promoting affiliate offers with email marketing.

And the first thing to do is to choose a product that meets your audience’s needs to promote.

If your affiliate offer doesn’t meet your audience’s needs or if it is something they don’t have an interest in, no matter how many subscribers you manage to build it won’t convert into sales.

So first and foremost choose a product you like and your audience may have interest too.

Step 4: Create a landing page or an opt-in page

The next step in how to build an email list for your affiliate marketing business is to create a landing page or an opt-in page you can use to build your email list.

This is where people can sign up or join your email list.

In order to increase the conversion rate you not only need a nice-looking landing page but a great offer people can exchange with their email addresses.

What we call a lead magnet.

You can use an eBook, a free course, or any freebies that offer value to your subscribers as a lead magnet to encourage your subscribers to join your mailing list.

Depending on the email marketing tool you use you can create a landing page for your marketing campaigns.

But if you want to create a nice-looking and professional landing page that will increase your conversion rate, I recommend you use a landing page builder tool.

Each tool has its specialty.

Here are my top recommended sales funnel and landing page builder tool:

Systeme.io – a freemium all-in-one marketing tool. You can build up to 2000 subscribers for free. The premium plan starts at $27 per month. Can be integrated with the Active Campaign email marketing tool.

Step 5: Optimize your site with signup forms

If you are using your blog as a lead generation tool, optimizing your website for lead generation will help you grow your email list faster.

What does it mean to optimize your website for lead generation?

It simply means offering your visitors an option to join your mailing list.

And you can optimize your website for lead generation by adding a button on the header of your site or using a toast. This button can be linked to your landing page created previously or you can just add an opt-in form in the header section.

You can also add an opt-in form inside your blog post with a relevant offer or freebies.

Several other areas of your website such as the footer section, and the sidebar section are areas you can place an opt-in form to encourage your website visitors to join your mailing list.

Another great way is to use a pop-up. This method is disturbing for your readers but if implemented right it can increase your conversion rate to up to 30%.

Note: just like with the landing page you will need something to offer for free in order to encourage your readers to join your mailing list.

An opt-in form with just “join our mailing list” won’t work better unless you are a well-established blogger or influencer in the industry.

Step 6: Connect Your email list with your opt-in form or/and landing page

In order to get your future subscribers or leads in your email list, you should link your email list with the opt-in forms you have created to get subscribers’ contacts.

So, connect your email list with your landing page.

Here is how I do it with the CoreX Funnels Builder.

I click first on the gear icon (settings), and I then click on the “select lists” button to select the list to which I want to add the subscribers to.

Step 7: Set Up Your Autoresponder

Getting people’s contacts is great as it gives you the opportunity to communicate with them.

But how can you keep them engaged?

This is email automation that comes into play.

And it starts with your welcome message.

Step 8: Send traffic to your landing pages

You have chosen your preferred email marketing service provider and have created your email list to which your subscribers will be added. You have also connected your email list with your opt-in form and your autoresponder is active and ready to deliver your welcome message and freebies to your subscribers.

Now it is time to send visitors to your landing page or website. Otherwise, you won’t get a lead.

And when it comes to traffic generation, you have several ways:

Use blogging
